So it never rains, but it pours. Adrianne is coming to visit us for 5 WHOLE DAYS!!! Unless you have spent the better part of 2 years alone in a house with 2 children, you can't truly appreciate the scope of my excitement when people come to visit. It's GREAT. And then....Jeff's Mom and Grandma and sister and her son are coming for a week or two right after! Jeff was remarking that if we could finagle some way of getting Mom, Niki & Christo down here, that we would have been able to visit just about everyone this year. Oh well. Maybe sometime.
Then after that, we have decided to take the 1st family vacation we've ever taken (ie: just Jeff, myself & the boys) and go for a few days to San Antonio. It's pretty nearby....about 6-8 hrs drive (yikes! Dillon! in the car for 8 hours! screaming! don'tthinkaboutitdon'tthinkaboutit)...and we'll be able to see the Alamo, maybe Seaworld, etc. So that should be fun.
On the above note, my perception of fun has changed in a somewhat large way since I've had kids. Fun is when no one throws a tantrum (or throws up), everyone gets their naps, and you do something that the kids think is a blast, often involving ice-cream. Their fun is my fun. And I'm not trying for the mother-of-the-year award either...it's self-serving. When they're having fun, I'm not running myself ragged trying to amuse them. Also, I think your brain changes a bit/and or you lose a good portion of it in the delivery and 1st few months of baby's life. That would explain a great deal.

Little things
So I've been pretty busy the past week...busy, but nothing really to write about. That's because my life is an endless round of diaper changing & nursing & blowing raspberries on fat bellies & enforcing bedtime. Could be worse! However, here are some highlights:
Yesterday I was trying, for the 5th time, to put Dillon to sleep. This is not as easy as it used to be. He has taken a violent dislike to sleeping and fights it gum-and-toenail until he finally falls (literally...from one minutes to the next) into an exhausted coma. Anyway, as I say, I was putting Dillon to sleep. Noah was in the room supposed to be napping, but he was just playing around & keeping the baby awake, so I finally sent him out of the room to go play. He goes.
I emerge about 15 minutes later to the following: there are BABY CARROTS ALL OVER THE HOUSE. He has taken a Costco-sized bag of baby carrots & scattered them, like the sower, everywhere. I asked him why. This was his answer: "I was throwing them at Miu Miu!" Apparently he had chased that poor cat all over the house throwing carrots at her. I made him pick them all up, as well as the heap of Dillon's clothes that I found in the boys' room.
Noah has taken to saying the following, just randomly:
"Mama, you know I aways love deese times"
Also, he calls animals "Anmeals". Say it out loud. It sounds pretty funny.
I would also like to add that I am in love with my baby son. He is as fat as you'd ever want a baby to be and although he plagues the life out of me, he is so cute that I can't hold it against him. And he really loves his Mama. As well he should.

Right Ho
Are you feeling down?
Do you feel that you're in a funk you can't pull yourself out of?
Did the last irate customer you've had to deal with make you think seriously about whether or not homicide is, in some cases, justifiable?
Is the 5th screaming tantrum that your 2 year old has had today making you feel like lobotomizing yourself with a butter knife?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need PG Wodehouse.
No, seriously. I highly recommend him. It's very stress-relieving to sit and read a little and have a good laugh. Just click on the link, and in the search Author box on the upper left-hand, type his name. There's quite a few of his works online there. I'm reading a few in my spare time (ha!) and have found them very theraputic.

Commentation Station
I would just like to say that I am SO impressed by the outpouring of support from all of you all, family & friends, for this blog. It's terrific to be able to feel close to all of you, and to know that communicating with you is just a post away. Also, many of you have unexpected depths of foolishness that have impressed me in spite of myself. (Can I get an amen, King Freddy?) And we all seem to write quite well. Good for us! I know so many literate people, I guess that makes me cool by association.

Father's Day
Tomorrow is Father's Day. I feel like I've been pretty blessed in the father department. I have 3 great fathers in my life that I'd like to rave about. The first is my own dad, Ezra. What a good father. I've always loved you more than all the other kids, Daddya, so I know you love me best too :) I have so many good memories of our lives together, having you sing us to sleep, and especially good times in Inokashira. I miss you, Daddya.
Daddy Chris, you've always been a wonderful father to us too. You are perfect for Mom, which makes me happy & helps me not to worry about her, and you've always shown us kids nothing but love. Also, you have a great laugh. ILY.
And lastly, my love & husband, Jeff. I can't write all I feel on this subject because it would take too long and I hear, even now, my little baby beginning to do the "you'd better get me quick cuz' I'm about to haul off & scream" cry while you serenade him with "Quack quack" (a big hit at our house). But I digress.
You, Beauty, are all the father I could ever have dreamed of or hoped for our children. We've been parents almost as long as we've been married...it's been a growing experience for both of us. I've seen you go through the "take this baby from me, I don't know what to do with it" stage, to the Call-the-grandparents-for-every-little-injury stage, and all sorts of stages inbetween. And you know what makes you so great? Not just that you're comfortable now with babies & know how to give toddlers their baths. It's that you love the kiddos so very much. You're as tender as a mother with them, and then you turn around & "fight and bite" Noah & let him "hop on Pop". You're just a natural, and you help me so much. I love you as a husband, but I love you just as much as the father of my children. Happy Father's Day.

Lyrics
"Quacky was a Duck"
Lyrics by Noah James Doss:
Quacky was a duck
Little duck was he
Furry yellow feathers
Cute he was a be
He lived on a farmer
Go da far away
And when I go to see him
Dis is what he say

Hair
So on Friday I took Noah to get his surfer-style hair cut. He has always had long curly hair, as shown here:
But it's over 100 degrees every day here & it's just too hot. So we went to the mall & had his hair cut. He was quite happy before hand, talking about what we were going to do excitedly....and I thought I knew what would happen when we got there. Sure enough, he started to pitch a fit when he had to sit in the chair & I had to practically hold him down and tell the guy "Just cut! Now!" He started frantically cutting while I did my best Noah-voice 'one times' to make him sit there. Here is the result:

Productivity Enhancers
Exercise rant
So I'm trying to diet & lose some weight. I am not finding this to be easy. Not only because in general it sucks to not eat all the food you love, but because my baby has it out for me. I put him down & ensure he is really asleep, and then creep into the next room to precore for 1/2 an hour. Any other time of day he sleeps for maybe half hour or 45 minutes. But if I'm exercising? Not so much. He has a radar that detects when I am desperate for him to stay asleep and purposely wakes up when I am.
This is very true. I'm not trying to be cute. I think the government should investigate, because I've talked to other mothers & they have confirmed this phenomenon. Babies KNOW things. I've become very superstitious about it, and, for example, will not look at the baby directly (avoid eye contact with body) when checking on the baby. If you look too long, he will wake up. And under NO circumstance should you enter the room when checking on said baby. I cannot tell you how many times the baby has awoke when Jeff has entered the room to 'check on the baby' in direct defiance to my instruction. (Could also be that Jeff is a certified hypocondriac & shakes the baby in order to detect breathing & signs of life.)
Laugh now, o ye childless. Just you wait.

I don't feel like coming up with a title to this one
So how do you know if you've been alone in the house with no one to talk to but little children for too long? This is how, folks:
When you walk around the house for A GOOD PORTION OF THE DAY singing the following:
Horray for you
Horray for me
Horray, Horray
He did his poo poojie
In my defense, it is something to celebrate...Dillon has had constipation ever since we introduced solid foods in his diet.

blog name
So this is a story that you may find funny & which has a bearing on the name of this blog:
The other day I was outside pushing Noah & Dillon on the swing. Dillon went to sleep, as he often does, in his swing. Noah was keeping up an incessant stream of chatter and I was sort of blankly replying "Yes, yes" and half tuning him out, when I caught this gem:
"Mama, if we eat his booty, Dilly will wake up."
How true. Also, disturbing.
I strongly considered naming this blog "The Booty Eaters". However, I fear that if googled, it will attract the wrong sort of attention. I'm sure you agree.

Hello
Hello all! This is the first time I've done this, so bear with me. Hope you like our name...I thought it appropriate. You can probably guess which one is Dossy and which one is Bossy. (Hint: I am not Dossy.)
I've been out of touch with a lot of you, friends and family, for awhile now except for the occasional phone call. Now all will change! You can read exciting posts on the stellar happenings of the Doss family in metropolitan El Paso, Texas, home of the Miners and the Foot-long Centipede of Death.
Enjoy!
